David L. Boren joined Continental Resources as a director in March 2009. He has served as president of the University of Oklahoma since November 1994.
Prior to that position, he represented Oklahoma in the United States Senate from 1979 to September 1995, serving as chairman of the U.S. Select Committee on Intelligence and on the Senate Finance and Agriculture committees. From 1975 to 1979, Mr. Boren served two terms as governor of Oklahoma. Prior to his election as governor, he served eight years in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. Mr. Boren was in private law practice from 1969 to 1974, and from 1970 to 1974 also served as a professor of Political Science at Oklahoma Baptist University. In 1986, he founded the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence, a private foundation that rewards and encourages excellence in public education, and continues to serve as its chairman. Mr. Boren received his BA degree in American History from Yale University in 1963, and was elected Phi Beta Kappa. He earned a Master’s degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University, England in 1965 as a Rhodes Scholar, and earned his law degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1968. He is a member of the boards of directors for AMR Corporation, Texas Instruments and Torchmark, and is a past director for ConocoPhillips Company and Hiland Partners, L.P.
